Demand Index

For the first time, the other half of the price equation.

CropGPT has always led on the supply side. The new Demand Index brings the other half of the market into the same platform: a commodity-specific score built from numerous independent signals, backtested and validated against historical price moves. Pair it with our production forecasts to see where supply and demand are about to collide.

Why now

Supply tells you half the story. Demand tells you the rest.

Every serious view on a soft commodity is still a supply view: hectares planted, weather, yield. But prices don't move on supply alone. They move on the gap between supply and demand on the other side.

We've applied the same playbook we use on the supply side to the demand side. The Demand Index pulls from numerous independent signals, combines them through a methodology we've built in-house, and backtests the result against decades of historical price moves. The output is a single score per commodity, updated frequently as the underlying signals move.

Paired with CropGPT's production forecasts, you can finally watch the full equation in one view, and see the crossover before the market does.

How it works

Numerous signals, one score.

The same approach we use for our supply-side intelligence, applied to the demand side. A broad set of independent signals, combined through an in-house methodology, validated against history.

01 · Numerous signals

Numerous independent signals

The index draws on a wide set of independent signals, the same way our supply-side work does. The signal set is proprietary. The diversity is what makes the score robust.

02 · Backtested

Backtested against history

Every signal, and the composite score itself, is backtested against decades of historical price moves. If it doesn't explain the past, it doesn't make it into the index.

03 · Updated frequently

Updated frequently

The Demand Index refreshes as the underlying signals move. You see the score shift in step with the market, not weeks after the fact.

Rollout

Sugar first. Then cocoa, wheat and soy.

We're launching one commodity at a time so every index is properly calibrated before it goes live. Sugar is first out of the gate; the next three follow through the rest of 2026.

Launching first

Sugar

The first Demand Index live at launch. Refiner pull, beverage-major contracting and confectionery offtake, scored and surfaced as the signals move.

Live · at launch
Next

Cocoa

Grind data across the four major regions, confectioner contracting and regional consumption trends. Paired with our cocoa production forecasts.

Following sugar
Then

Wheat

Milling demand, flour-mill throughput and regional consumption across the major importing blocs. Calibrated against twenty years of price history.

Following cocoa
Then

Soy

Crush rates, meal and oil offtake and livestock-feed demand in the major importing economies. The final commodity in the first rollout.

Following wheat
The market has a supply view and a demand view. We just put them on the same chart.
